Untethering students from the traditional television newscast: A brainstorming session for professors embracing the Digital Disruption

Suggested Speakers

Ideas for untethering students from traditional TV newscasts. Brainstorm with profs already embracing the #digitaldisruption.

Session Description

J-school broadcast newsrooms across the country are using their classrooms as laboratories for digital journalism and storytelling innovation — and we have so much to learn from one another. This panel of broadcast professors will kick off a brainstorming session about adopting digital-first technology, such as social videos and social newscasts, into classroom routines. First we will present our recent projects, then we will invite audience members to contribute their own work. Whether yours is a cautionary tale or an obvious explainabrag, let’s work together to get all of our future journalists thinking outside the 22-minute box.

How does your submission contribute to the diversity of the conference?

This proposed session invites the many professors who attend this conference to work together to help their future journalists stay ahead of the trends. The format is unique in that the audience is asked to participate heavily, but participation is not required in order to benefit from the session.

What will your audience have gained by the time your session is over?
