Front-row seat to Trump: @AP White House Correspondent @jpaceDC on covering the media-skeptical tweeter-in-chief. #CoveringTrump #ONA17

Session Description

Every new administration that arrives at the White House brings its own personality, quirks and challenges for the journalists tasked with covering it. A veteran White House correspondent pivots and focuses on the job at hand.

But how do you adjust to a president who is hostile toward the news media, accusing reporters of underhanded motives and unfair treatment even as he lobs unexplained accusations from his Twitter account?

Julie Pace — an AP White House reporter since early in the Obama administration and chief White House correspondent since 2013 — has made that adjustment from her front-and-center seat in the press briefing room. Join her for a conversation about what it’s been like to cover candidate and President Trump, in person and online, and about the lessons she’s learned as a digital journalist witnessing history under two American presidents.

How does your submission contribute to the diversity of the conference?

At AP, we're proud to have a world-class White House team that's led by exceptional female journalists. And Julie Pace's particular experience as a woman covering Trump, during the campaign and since his inauguration, will help inform much of what she'll discuss in this session.
